February 23 Reflections
The Life and Ministry of the Messiah
How many references to the prophecy or Old Testament can you see in the accounts of Jesus’ birth and early ministry?
Make note in this week’s reading of the differences between Matthew, Mark, and Luke’s account when they are describing the same events.
Consider: The Gospel writers all include references to the Old Testament prophecies in their narratives of the birth and life of Jesus. They see the dots connecting with the promises of the Messiah from the Old Testament and the fulfillment of those prophecies in the life of Jesus. Additionally, they tell the same stories from different perspectives to reach different audiences. Each author includes details that would be important for their Jewish (Matthew) or Gentile (Luke) audience. Their Gospels give a robust view of Jesus as the Messiah for all peoples of the world.
